Loved

We often believe the lie:  THOSE WHO FAIL ARE UNWORTHY OF LOVE AND DESERVE TO BE PUNISHED.  Those who think this way punish themselves and others, blame others for their own personal failures, withdraw from God and others and avoid failure at all costs.

This is the first in a series of four articles dealing with the grace of God, based on Robert McGee’s book, The Search for Significance, (2003 Thomas Nelson).  McGee, the founder of RAPHA, makes the bold proclamation, I am deeply loved, fully pleasing, totally forgiven, accepted, and complete in Christ.

What is God’s Truth? I AM DEEPLY LOVED IN CHRIST.  That’s what the Scriptures tell us.    He is the One who calls me The Beloved.  He loves me no matter what.  Christ bore my sin—He will never punish me.  Here’s a short Biblical painting of God’s grace:

There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. (1John 4:18)  “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish, but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)  This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. (1John 4:9-10)  And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from his love.  Death can’t, and life can’t.  The angels can’t, and the demons can’t. Our fears for today, or worries about tomorrow, and even the powers of hell can’t keep God’s love away.  Whether we are high above the sky or in the deepest ocean, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 8:38-39)

What does this mean to a Christian?  I will guard my thoughts.  I will turn away from the lies and distortions of the world and focus on Jesus Christ, my Lord and Savior.  Christ bore my sins and made complete payment for me on the cross.  His payment is sufficient for me.  I am in right-standing in the sight of God.  I accept His gift of Grace and mercy.

God is Abba—Daddy—and I am His small child.  He takes me into His arms in love and the depth of His love is without end.  I bask in the light of His favor.  Because God loves me, I know I am worthy of love.  I am content.  I have a peaceful and gentle spirit.

God has chosen to forget my sins—He will remember them no more.  He will not punish me.  I no longer fear punishment.  I no longer punish myself or others

May the peace and joy of the Holy Spirit fill your heart and keep you focused on Jesus Christ all the days of your life.

Be blessed!
